SUSTAINABLE SUPPLIERS
SUPPLY CHAIN
We don't just set sustainability goals for ourselves, but also for our 12,000 suppliers. It allows us to build the most sustainable supply chain, the impact of which extends well beyond the BMW Group. The leverage effect we create through this combined effort has positive consequences for the entire automotive industry, which all OEMs benefit from.
We are saving 20% in CO2 emissions throughout the supply chain. Without these measures there would be an increase of 40% due to the higher energy requirement of electric car production.
OUR GOAL:
CREATE THE MOST SUSTAINABLE SUPPLY CHAIN IN THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY.
A requirement we demand from our battery cell manufacturers, for example, is that they only use green electricity in their production process. By 2030, this requirement alone will save CO2 emissions, which is the equivalent of the annual emissions of the city of Munich.
Furthermore, a contract worth hundreds of millions of euros was recently signed with Emirates Global Aluminium for the delivery of 43,000 tonnes of aluminium in 2021. The aluminium in question is produced using solar energy and covers almost half of the annual needs of the light metal foundry in the Landshut plant. By 2030, this will save approximately 2.5 million tonnes of CO2.
